Melissa Katz is a Consultant at KapilaMukamal and joined the firm in 2016 after several years as a forensic and business valuation services associate with other accounting firms.

Professional Experience

Ms. Katz concentrates on performing lost profits, variance and transaction-tracing analyses to calculate economic damages and identify flows of funds.  She has constructed databases and utilizes pivot tables to interpret data, test theories and formulate  conclusions.  She has drafted expert witness reports to summarize results, examine the work of opposing experts, corroborate third-party financial information and create corresponding exhibits to illustrate financial information.  Ms. Katz has conducted fraud investigations, performed check kiting analyses and quantified misappropriation of assets.

Ms. Katz provides forensic investigation, bankruptcy consulting and litigation support services to bankruptcy trustees, receivers and fiduciaries. Litigation support and damage calculation services include solvency analyses, asset tracking, investigation of fraudulent and preferential transfers, tracing of commingled funds and claim analysis.  She assists court-appointed receivers,  trustees and examiners with investigation and recovery of misappropriated assets in Ponzi or other fraudulent schemes.

She is experienced with providing matrimonial services to high net worth individuals with significant domestic and international assets and business interests.  Her experience also includes generating equitable distribution analyses and family law financial affidavits for divorce and prenuptial disclosure, as well as developing valuation models and producing reports for gift tax and business divorce.
